The first day of the 74th Electronic Components and Technology Conference (ECTC), which is taking place in Denver (USA) between May 28 and 31, was marked by presentation and discussion sessions on some of the most important topics in global microelectronics.<\/p>\n
The AIDA CCI is attending the ECTC on behalf of the Microelectronics Agenda consortium and, on this first day, highlights include two Special Sessions in the morning and a series of presentations in the afternoon.<\/p>\n
The first session in the morning, chaired by Przemyslaw Gromala (Bosch) and Erik Jung (Fraunhofer), focused on co-investments by the State with private companies in the main stages of the industry \u2013 the USA, Asia and Europe \u2013 taking into account legislative initiatives such as the CHIPS and Science Act in the USA and the European Chips Act in the European Union, which aim to increase domestic production of semiconductors in these territories.<\/p>\n
The second morning session focused on metrology, with a debate between Ran Tao (NIST) and Benson Chan (Univ. Binghamton), moderated by Jan Vardaman (TechSearch), on the challenges and opportunities on the horizon for metrology, which seems essential for technological advances in this industry.<\/p>\n
In the afternoon, AIDA CCI attended a series of sessions chaired by William Chen (ASE) and Ravi Mahajan (Intel), including a round table discussion on the CHIPS and Science Act in the US, the European Chips Act in the EU and India\u2019s R&D strategy for semiconductors and packaging. The afternoon session ended with the theme of challenges in the areas of packaging and innovation in communication systems.<\/p>\n
In addition to the presentation and debate sessions, there are more than 100 international exhibitors at the conference. AIDA CCI will continue to attend the intense ECTC program until it closes on the 31st, representing the Portuguese consortium of the Microelectronics Agenda.<\/p>\n
